Spending five days in On Luong commune with many learning activities, practicing One Health core competencies to control zoonotic diseases and food safety hygiene issues. Students have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge between two disciplines: Public Health and Veterinary Medicine, sharing views and evaluating on how to deal with the control of zoonotic diseases; food safety hygiene issues in some food business households. Besides that, the students also visited Center of preventive medicine, Sub – department of veterinary medicine at Phu Luong district and Mrs. Truong Thi Thuy Hong - Vice Director of the Center shared information of situation of zoonotic diseases in recent years, especially, every year people have died from dog bites. Continuously students and local officials, people were exchanging information, discussing about rabies prevention.
In particular, students have divided in different groups and went to village households to know the situation of dog husbandry, keeping dogs and other knowledge about rabies of local people. In addition, the students also instructed more 50 local households how to vaccinate their dogs as well as how to handle when dogs bite.
End of 5 days activity, more knowledge about practicing One health core competencies has been realized, many new friendships have been built. Therefore, in the coming time, Thai Nguyen university of Agriculture and Forestry, university of Medicine and Pharmacy and One health Project will continue to organize more meaningful activities with more field trip activity so that students can apply flexible One health core competencies in the field.
